The cause is almost always a damper-door motor failure, a stalled evaporator fan, or a defrost-system fault that blocks the evaporator with frost. Common causes for this symptom.

  • Evaporator fan motor failed.

    The fan that pushes cold air from the freezer into the fridge has stopped or seized. Common on units 5–7 years old.

  • Defrost cycle stuck.

    Frost has built up on the evaporator coil and is blocking airflow. The defrost heater, thermistor, or timer needs replacement.

  • Damper door stuck closed.

    The flap that opens to let cold air into the fridge compartment is mechanically jammed or its motor failed.

  • Control board fault.

    The main control board is no longer cycling cooling correctly. Less common, but seen on Samsung, LG, and integrated Sub-Zero units.
