Common issues we fix.

  • Vacuum panels losing R-value, compressor cycling longer.

Foam-and-vacuum side panels lose insulation value over years on BI-36/42/48 built-ins; the upper compartment drifts warm as the compressor runs longer to hold setpoint.

    Typical time
    next-day if parts ordered
    Typical cost
    $700–$1,800+
  • Upper compartment cooling fine, lower freezing solid.

Dual-evaporator imbalance — one evaporator's airflow path or thermistor goes off on BI-series, taking down half the cabinet.

    Typical time
    60–120 min
    Typical cost
    $325–$575+
  • Cabinet warming over a 24-hour window, compressor still runs.

BI-42 condenser fan motor wear at 8+ years on Sub-Zero; the compressor runs but heat is not shedding.

    Typical time
    60–90 min
    Typical cost
    $325–$575+
  • Ice-maker harvest hangs, water backs into the mold.

Ice-maker board failure on BI-series built-ins; the harvest cycle stalls and water keeps cycling into the mold.

    Typical time
    60–90 min
    Typical cost
    $400–$900+

What to expect when we arrive.

Models we service most.

More about Sub-Zero repair.

Sub-Zero is built-in refrigeration. The repair is different.

Sub-Zero units sit flush in cabinetry, so service requires different access, different tools, and different timing than a freestanding fridge. Pulling a BI-42 forward to reach the condenser without scarring the cabinet face is a thirty-minute job before the diagnosis even starts. We bring shoe covers, a drop cloth, and the right anti-tip strap, every visit.

Common Sub-Zero issues we see

  • Vacuum-panel cooling losses. The foam-and-vacuum side panels lose insulation value over years, the compressor runs longer to hold setpoint, and the upper compartment drifts warm.
  • Dual-evaporator imbalance. The upper compartment cools fine but the lower freezes solid, or the reverse, when one evaporator’s airflow path or thermistor goes off.
  • Sealed-system leaks. Usually at brazed joints near the compressor, on units that crossed the 12-year mark.
  • Magnetic door-switch faults. The interior light stays on, the unit can’t track door-open events, and defrost cycles drift.
  • Condenser-fan motor failures. The compressor still runs but heat doesn’t shed, so the cabinet warms over a 24-hour window.
  • Ice-maker board failures on BI-series. The harvest cycle hangs, water backs into the mold.
  • Control-board firmware glitches on PRO 48 models. Temperature alarms cycle on without cause.

Models we service most often

BI-36, BI-42, and BI-48 built-ins. ICBBI series. PRO 48 from the PRO Series. Designer Series 36-inch. Wine Storage 424, 427, and 424FS. Classic 600 series.

What to expect on a Sub-Zero visit

We arrive in a marked van with shoe covers and a drop cloth. The visit starts with a $65 in-home diagnosis — waived if you say yes to the repair. Parts and labor carry a 3-month warranty (6 to 12 months on compressor work). We will walk you through what failed and why before any work begins.

We are an independent Sub-Zero repair shop

We are not factory-authorized and not affiliated with Sub-Zero Group, Inc. We service Sub-Zero because we have invested in the parts inventory, the diagnostic tools, and the years of repair history.

What your neighbors said this month.

  • I couldn't recommend this company more highly. I have used them several times and found Ivan to be knowledgeable, responsive, honest and courteous. He has saved me from buying a new refrigerator twice and unlike so many vendors, he is always able to diagnose the problem quickly and always knows how to fix it. If you want someone reliable who truly knows his craft and is always fair and reasonable, call We Fix Fridges!

  • We have used this company several times now. I wanted to leave a review because Ivan really went above and beyond for this last repair the day before a big holiday weekend. He saved us! 100% recommend him. Besides being so knowledgeable which helps with diagnosis to repairs he is courteous and timely and we have found his prices to be very fair. It's hard to find a trustworthy reliable repair person. We have Ivan on text now!

  • Highly recommended. Been in business with Ivan 3 different times with different appliances and all were satisfactory with problem fixed. He even figured out an indirect minor issue and fixed it for us with no charge without us asking for it. Ivan will be the first one I call in any cases of an appliance that needs repair.
