Maytag is a Whirlpool platform with a heavier compressor spec.
Maytag MFI French-door and MZF freezer chassis are built on the Whirlpool platform, which means the parts lineage and the failure patterns track closely with what we see on Whirlpool WRF and WRX. The compressor and condenser spec runs slightly heavier than the base Whirlpool platform — that is the Maytag durability promise — but the control electronics and ice-maker assemblies behave the same way. We are an independent fridge-only shop and we service Maytag every week.
Common Maytag issues we see
- Compressor start-relay failures on MFI French-door past year 8. The compressor clicks but does not start, the cabinet warms over a 24-hour window, and the relay shorts before the compressor itself.
- Defrost-heater open circuit on MFF French-door. The evaporator ices over, frost builds on the rear panel of the freezer, airflow chokes and the fresh-food side drifts warm.
- Ice-maker harvest-cycle stalls on French-door units. The harvest motor torques but the cubes stay locked in the mold, water overflows on the next fill cycle.

You get a written quote before any work begins, with parts and labor under a 3-month warranty (6 to 12 months on compressor and sealed-system work).
